The leading race for trotters is the Hambletonian.This race was first held at Syracause,New York,in 1926 and is now run every at the Meadowlands,East Rutherford,New Jersey.It is named after a trotter called Hambletonian.

The leading race for pacers is The Little Brown Jug,named after a 19th-century horse.It has been held at Delaware,Ohio,every year sice 1946.
