The Breeders' Cup

The Breeders' Cup Limited was started in 1982 to encourage thoroughbred racing throughout the U.S.A.The first Breeders' Cup day was held on 10 November 1984 at Hollywood Park,Inglewood,California.Between 1984 and 2006 the championship was a single day event,but since 2007 has been spread over two days.It is held at a different couse each year.

                              In 2008there was six races on the first day (Friday), and eight on the second                                       (Saturday).The total prize-money for the 2008 Breeders' Cup was $25.5                                               million.The top race is the Breeders' Cup Classic which is run over one mile and                                   two furlongs.The prize-money for this race in 2008 was $5 million with over $2.7                                 million for the winner.
